The Horse Comes First at Newmarket Open Weekend

The Horse Comes First is delighted to have a presence at the Betfair Newmarket Open Weekend – an extension of the successful annual Newmarket Open Day – to spread the word about the high levels of equine care and welfare in British horseracing.

On both Saturday and Sunday visitors will have the opportunity of winning a pair of tickets for QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot in October, the richest ever raceday held in Britain. All they have to do is come along to The Horse Comes First’s stand and enter the competition held in conjunction with Retraining of Racehorses (RoR).

Thousands of visitors are expected to descend upon the headquarters of British Racing for what promises to be an action-packed weekend which will include the opportunity to visit trainers' yards and equine sites, including Tattersalls, The National Horseracing Museum, The National Stud, The British Racing School, as well as the recognised centres of excellence for equine veterinary care, the Newmarket Equine Hospital and Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons. There will also be an afternoon of racing on Saturday with a range of special activities.

The weekend provides a great opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of British racing, one of the world's best regulated animal activities. Indeed, among a population estimated to be around 1 million, racehorses in Britain are almost certainly among the healthiest and best looked after 2% of horses in the country. The weekend will also be a great chance to meet some of the 6,500 people employed by the sport to provide first class care and attention for the 14,000 horses in training.
