The Horse Comes First and RoR at Wincanton Racecourse’s Horses for Courses Raceday

On Monday 4th April, The Horse Comes First and RoR were at Wincanton Racecourse’s inaugural Horses for Course Raceday.

The day was designed to give racegoers an insight into racehorses – how much care and attention the 14,000 racehorses in training receive from over 6,000 people employed by the sport, what’s involved behind the scenes in the run up to a race, and what they can do after they have retired from racing.

The raceday involved a variety of activities including a demonstration by retired Gold Cup winner Denman and Charlotte Alexander, a display by Wylye Pony Club showing the skills required to jump miniature Shetland ponies, and a polo display by professional polo player Roddy Stanning.

The day was also a great opportunity to tell racegoers more about the work of The Horse Comes First and RoR in raising awareness of the high levels of welfare provided to racehorses during and after their racing careers.
