Newmarket: Where ‘The Horse Comes First’

The Newmarket Equine Hospital (NEH) and ‘The Horse Comes First’ have joined together to promote the record of horse welfare in British racing.

“Thoroughbreds have been genetically selected over many generations to run fast”, says Dr Meredith A. Smith, a vet at the NEH. “Their legs are slim, and their chests are broad and deep girthed which maximises their cardiac and respiratory capacity.  There is also an innate love of galloping within them, which sets this breed apart.”

One of the stories of the 2013 flat season has been the remarkable return of Forgotten Voice; first winning at Royal Ascot a remarkable four years on from his initial success there and then his follow up at Glorious Goodwood; one of only two horses to win at both festivals this summer.
